Viscounts of the West Kingdom

Viscounts of the West Kingdom is set at a time when the King’s power is beginning to wane, around 980 AD. Choosing peace over prosperity, our once mighty King has begun offering gold and land to our enemies to lay down their weapons. But peace is uncertain. As poverty spreads, many are losing faith in his ability to rule and are seeking independence from the crown. Having gained favour in his court, our own future is uncertain too. As Viscounts we must be wise and decisive. Loyalty must be preserved, but gaining favour with the people must be our priority, should there be a sudden shift in power.
The goal of Viscounts of the West Kingdom is to be the player with the most victory points (VP) at the end of the game. Points are earned by constructing buildings, writing manuscripts, working in the castle and acquiring deeds for new land. Players begin with a handful of townsfolk, but must quickly seek out more suitable talent to develop their ventures. On each turn they will travel the kingdom, seeking to increase their influence among the various parts of society. The game ends once the kingdom reaches either poverty or prosperity — or potentially both!
