In an alternate version of the 19th century, the inventor Elsa von Frühlingsfeld presents to the Saxon King Friedrich August II an extraordinary device that changes the course of history. Using the newly discovered element uranium, she creates the Nucleum — a reactor that produces energy through a process called “atomisation”. This revolutionary discovery transforms Saxony from a small regional state into a leading European centre of science, engineering and industry.
Decades later, the industrial boom is in full swing. Factories demand ever more energy, new reactors, railway lines and power networks are being built, and uranium is supplied from neighbouring Bohemia. Inventors, engineers and entrepreneurs flock to the Saxon court, determined to leave their mark on the new industrial revolution.
Nucleum is a heavy strategic euro game in which you take on the role of an ambitious industrialist during Saxony’s period of economic and technological flowering. Your goal is to build a successful industrial empire, harnessing the power of the Nucleum.
Victory points are earned by expanding your transport and energy network, building and powering city buildings, fulfilling contracts and achieving a variety of end-game goals that are determined at random. Each player also has a unique technology tree, unlocking special abilities and different paths of development. The game plays without rounds or phases — players simply take turns in sequence, which keeps play smooth and continuous.
